ANG commences heritage restoration of Midsomer Norton Town Hall

Midsomer Norton mayor, Cllr Lynda Robertson, was delighted to hand over the keys of the Town Hall to ANG’s Site Manager, Damon James and the rest of the project team, as work commences to transform this historic Grade II Listed hall into a community building fit for the 21st century.

As the management contractor, ANG will deliver Phase 1 of the ambitious refurbishment to a 32-week programme, involving the reinstatement of the hall’s original ‘market hall’ at ground floor by removing an existing mezzanine floor and warren of rooms and corridors.

The newly created open-plan space will provide an atmospheric location for markets and civic, community, arts and cultural events and activities. Phase 1 will also include remodelling and refurbishment of ancillary spaces within the ground and first floors. This will enable the building to function properly ahead of planned Phase 2 works, which are subject to the agreement of additional funding, but would see the building extended to accommodate meeting rooms, offices, a café bar and catering facilities.

The Town Hall Transformation is one of several local projects being funded through Midsomer Norton’s successful application to become a designated High Street Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ). Not only will this project restore an important historical property, it will make it a valuable and self-sustaining asset for the community.
